Who are we?

Pick & Pop is Oakland’s premier pickeball experience, serving the Bay Area’s current and soon-to-be pickle ball enthusiasts. Born from an idea of creating more than a pickleball court, Pick & Pop strives to create gathering spaces for people who want to stay active, eat good food from local chefs, enjoy each other’s company, and maybe even make new friends.

Do I have to be a member?

Absolutely not. We are not an exclusive members club or league. We believe staying active should be accessible to anyone regardless of physical fitness, ability, or skill. That said, while we want to create fun and friendly environments, we also host competitive tournaments and league play for our regulars.

What kinds of reservations are available?

Pick & Pop offers single court reservations for $20 per hour. Each court accommodates 2-4 players at a time. You can easily reserve online courts. Our monthly membership packages offer discounted court rates for our more frequent players.

What the hell is pickleball?

Good question. We found ourselves asking the same thing. After playing a few casual games, we describe it as “tennis for anyone.” Not all of us are skilled tennis players, but we still want to find a way to run around the court. Pickleball is a smaller court area played at a much slower speed than high-level tennis. The rules are also different. We encourage you to do what we did… watch a few YouTube videos to learn more.

Do you have outdoor courts?

Despite living in the Bay Area, we want to ensure a comfortable, year-round environment. Plus, it helps keep the decibel level to a minimum so we don’t disturb our neighbors. Our courts are indoors in our climate-controlled facility. But we also have outdoor seating areas to hang out, relax, enjoy a bite, or share a drink before/after your game (or really, whenever you want to stop by).

What food and drinks do you offer?

We take pride in providing a space for local chefs to share their food. We will primarily operate as a pop-up location for a range of cuisines. Some of these pop-ups will sell alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. We are in the process of obtaining our own alcohol license.

We also run a full coffee bar serving drip coffee, espresso drinks, bottled beverages, and light snacks.

What’s the Chef Curry award?

Every three months, we run a weekend-long 4v4 tournament for anyone to join, featuring food and drinks from local vendors. The winning team earns the Chef Curry (named after one of the best pick-and-poppers of all time). Each member of the winning team gets free court access (1 hour per day) until the next tournament where they have to defend their crown.

Pick & Pop is short for pickleball (duh) and pop-ups. But we couldn’t help but notice it also refers to the savvy basketball move :)
